Austrian finance minister does not believe Brexit will happen

"Britain will remain EU member":

Hans Jörg Schelling (seen here with Juncker) is sure that at most a "part-Brexit" of the British will occur. However, the finance minister insists on a restructuring of the EU.

Finance Minister Hans Jörg Schelling does not believe in spite of the majority in the referendum on Brexit in the exit of Britain from the European Union. "Britain will remain a member in the future", the ÖVP politician told the Handelsblatt.

"In five years, there will be still 28 Member States." The statements of the heads of the European rescue fund, ESM and the British government leaders allow the conclusion that for the time being there is no hurry to make the application.

According to Schelling another model could be a "part-Brexit". "That is, only England exits the EU, and Scotland and Northern Ireland will remain members of the EU," said the Minister.
Schelling calls for reconstruction of the European Union

The politician calls for a fundamental reconstruction of the EU according to the principle of subsidiarity. In the core issues, such as the economic and monetary union, security, migration, labour market, growth and climate change Europe needs to adopt a fully closed position and together bring about solutions.

"This creates value and jobs and confidence among citizens. Europe can only exist together in the globalised market place," Schelling warned.

However, the principle of subsidiarity should apply to other areas outside the major policy areas. It provides that the EU should act only if the Member States' actions are not sufficient.
