German socialists sceptical about Arriva flotation

SPD is sceptical about Arriva flotation on the German stock exchange

In the context of the British vote to leave the EU, the SPD has expressed reservations against a flotation of the DB subsidiary Arriva. "I am sceptical that Deutsche Bahn CEO Rüdiger Grube would be well advised, given Brexit, to now place Arriva on the London Stock Exchange," said SPD parliamentary group deputy Sören Bartol to the magazine "Der Spiegel". He did not think that this could currently generate revenues which the state-owned company needs to finance its growth strategy.

Grube wants to sell minority interests in the global logistics subsidiary Schenker and the Arriva subsidiary which focuses on passenger transport abroad. The path is based on possible disadvantages in the UK after the Brexit. Grube has however emphasized at the end of July: "We will do nothing unreasonable. We will not destroy any value". At the end of the year, the Management Board intends to present a concept for a partial privatization of the two subsidiaries to the Supervisory Board.
