EU Commission plans European Cyber-Security Authority

The European Commission has proposed the creation of a European cyber safety authority.
It should help the Member States to prevent and respond to electronic attacks, the Commission said in Brussels. No country can cope with the challenges of cyber-security alone, said Ansip, the Commissioner responsible for the digital single market.

In addition, the EU Commission advocated uniform safety standards for equipment in the so-called "Internet of Things". Similar to food, consumers could then use safety certificates to identify which standards their networked products meet. By 2020 the Commission estimates that there will be up to six billion such devices in the European Union, such as networked refrigerators or heaters.
